Dial Tone Recovery, Exchange 2007

Microsoft Technet Article on Exchange 2007 Dial Tone recovery. Basically, this is the process that you have to invoke if you need or have set the DB file to zero bytes and it's time to put it back together AND your backup software/Exchange refuses to put data anywhere but the Recovery Storage Group. This takes a lot of time to complete, because you have to spawn a process to restore email for each of the accounts in the Mailbox Database. So if you get started early in the "emergency" while diagnosing another problem (say restoring the information to the "live" database) then you will have a solution sooner or later.

Sadly, it seems like the best way to fix the problem would be to have two Exchange mail nodes with the same name, and to swap the two out when one gets confused. Hey, it's Microsoft....
